Hello there! It’s been a while so I’m gladly bringing you up to speed about all things Oceans In Light!
With the release of 2 new songs ‘Promises’ and ‘Patah Tjingke’ another cycle has come to an end.
Although I never really thought of it as a cycle. It definitely feels like that now that these 2 songs are released. It’s therefore a proper time to reflect on this period and look forward as well.
2023 and 2024 were amazing years in terms of creativity if I may say so myself. With the release of ‘Goliath’ in 2023, a longstanding wish (to make an instrumental Metal Epic) came into fruition. The song ‘Stardust’ is also a song I’m still really happy with. After all..One can’t have enough tributes to ‘The Tielman Brothers’.
I’m also extremely proud of both new songs ‘Promises’ and ‘Patah Tjingke’ and will make time in the near future to write dedicated pages to these songs in the Discography Section.
So, what’s next for Oceans In Light?
Not a clue! It’s a clean slate that lies before me. Tonight I did some archive-work. It always surprises me how easy it is to forget things that I’ve worked on in the past but never finished.
My main conclusion is that some of these ideas still really give me a good feeling. Therefore I won’t throw them away. I know they will excite me when the time is right. I also know that now is not that time.
For example, one of them is the project I mentioned in January. Originally it was going to be my main focus for 2024. But things changed and the main focus became ‘Promises’.
Earlier this year I have also been working on my own cover of ‘Black Eyes’. Many hours have been spent on that project. However due to the writing and recording of ‘Promises’ this project has been shelved for a while. There is no doubt that I will pick this project up again. As you can imagine, it may be one of the most important things I’ve ever done.
About this clean slate
This is an interesting time that really excites me when I think about it. For the last 2 years I always had some sort of plan on what I was working on. I deliberately want to take this time to have ..well..absolutely nothing.
That’s also the reason that I don’t want to work on the older material for now. Except for ‘Black Eyes’. But that’s a cover where I already have the vision and idea on how it should sound. It’s just a lot of work on getting it done and improving my guitar chops. That can go simultaneously with developing new ideas from scratch.
Future Release
Will the next release be another full album or will I keep releasing songs when they are finished? To have at least one full album was something I did purely for my own ego. Now that I have done that, I do not necessarily feel the need to release another album. However I’m certainly not opposed to the idea. For the last 2 years I consciously made the choice to release the songs immediately when they were finished. And I really liked that way of working. But since that cycle has ended, anything is possible.
Alright that’s it for now. Thanks for reading and see you soon!
