Background and Recording
After releasing a couple of singles, I had this idea of making an actual album. This always felt as something that I could never achieve because you need to have musicians, rehearsal space, a studio with a recording engineer and producer. And for that you probably need a big budget.
Well not anymore folks! It’s the 21st century and all you need is a computer (preferably Mac), some soundcard to that computer, a cable, a microphone and some basic knowledge of the software you are going to work with. And from there you can get as crazy as you want! You make your own label through a distributor such as Distrokid and release new music whenever you want. And release whatever you want!
Creating my first own album was a magnificent experience. What I really liked was thinking about these things such as the Album Title, and album flow. For example I instantly knew that No Amends be the Album closer. And that ‘The Road to Armadillo’ should be the song before that.
‘Into Ocean’ and ‘A.A.A.’ felt like a good One Two Punch, to start the album with.
‘Light in Dark Waters’ felt to be a smooth break in the middle, that closed the first part and started the second part of the album.
To have my own album released felt like a monumental achievement for me in life. And I take pride in the fact that I know that every song is created with the following thought in mind:
Even if no one wants to listen to this, I know that I will.
See that’s what it’s all about. I know I’m not going to be rich by making this album, make a career. So I thought I’d better be as self indulgent as possible. Make what you want, because ultimately it is You who has to enjoy it. And I’m convinced that’s the way it should always be.
