Background & Recording
The shortest song on the album, but important nevertheless. I imagine the first six songs to be side I.
‘Light in Dark Waters’ feels like the first song on side II (if ever pressed to vinyl). After the first half of the album closes with 6 songs that include 3 covers, this song starts the second half of the album that only contains originals.
It’s based on a simple chord progression that I can’t remember as I’m writing this background story. See it’s been too long! I should have written this earlier and perhaps make some notes so I would remember my own damn songs.
But I digress. Back to the simple chord progression. The idea was to build on that, and add layers until it reaches some sort of climax. After that everything fades away. Like lights in Dark Waters that go deeper and deeper.
My main inspirations for the song were bands old favorites such as ‘Oceansize’ and ‘God Is an Astronaut’.
All of the layers are guitar parts. I also used keys in the middle of the song. I remember the creation process for this song being really quick and smooth.
