Background & Recording

This song is one of my favorites from the album. My tribute to the Tielman Brothers and Ennio Morricone. Played on a Jazzmaster as it should. This is one of the songs that when in demo phase, I could not stop listening to the ‘latest’ demo version, everytime I made some progress with the writing and recording. Usually that is for me the sign that lets me know if the song is good or not. The recording process took some time for this one, because I really did not know when the song should end. It took some time to figure out the definitive structure. Even now after all these demo listening sessions, and hearing it countless of times during mixing, I still don’t get enough of this one.

Inspiration for the title came from the video game Red Dead Redemption 2. One of my all time favorite games.

Another interesting note for us Music Nerds: At the last part of the song I tried to emulate a Fender VI by filtering a lot of the low range out of a designated Bass take. I believe the Tielman Brothers at one time had 2 Fender VI basses in their live line-up. What an incredible experience it must have been to have seen them live in the period 1958-1965. I should write an article about them.
