Background & Recording

The idea behind the Beat Tapes-series is that it can be a collection of songs or song ideas that will never make it on a regular album or EP. But since I recorded the damn things anyway, I thought let’s release them as part of a Beat Tapes Collection. I feel a lot of freedom on what I can put on these Beat Tapes. There is no worry about ‘album flow’, what songs fit stylistically together, or whatever. Just….Record and Release! Yeah that’s the spirit.

And funnily enough the song Coffee Table Twisted is now my most popular song. It was actually added to someones ‘chill guitar’-playlist (or something similar to that). What an honor. Thanks for that.

Hmmm so the money must be good now? Getting cocky already? Yes million$ are flowing in and a huge Stadium Tour might be coming to your country. So keep an eye out for some nice tickets. We keep the overpricing fair and minimal of course.

Cover Art

This cover art is just some picture I took outside on a rainy evening, followed by some clueless noodling in Affinity Photo.

At this point creating cover art is a necessary thing to do, but I don’t put a lot of time and thought into it. I gotta have some or I can’t release the material. Well known is the fact that I should pay more attention to it because I really value the great cover art of all my favorite bands.

But in reality the situation goes like this for me:
Imagine the situation where I’m already in the phase of trying to upload the songs to my online distributor. It’s probably late at night. The songs are done and so am I. That’s when the little Cover Art Devil shows itself. I have to provide it otherwise I can’t continue the uploading process. So it’s the last hurdle to release the songs. I usually curse a bit and take a deep breath. Then I minimize my web browser to open Affinity Photo and quickly create something, smack a logo and title on it, in order to get the songs out (these steps preferably within 5-10 minutes). Yes, real confessions of a true professional. I might need to change that part of the workflow. I’ll think about it. Next time it will be different. Yeah? Right…
